A free Google intern

01
~96%less reading for your bot

Your bot pays for every word it reads. Google's free Gemini tier can read long PDFs, YouTube videos, audio and dictation, then hand your bot a short brief.

BEGINNER MISTAKE

Your bot reads a 100-page PDF itself

THE TRICK

Gemini reads it free. Your bot reads a 300-word brief.

ONE 100-PAGE REPORT: WORDS YOUR BOT HAS TO READ

ESTIMATE · THE GEMINI SIDE COSTS $0 ON THE FREE TIER

TRICK 01 / FREE GOOGLE INTERN

These are the steps

01Free Google intern
  1. 1

    Get a free Gemini key

aistudio.google.com/apikey, then Create API key. No card needed.
  2. 2

Save it as a secret, not in chat

SAY"Ask me for a secret called GEMINI_API_KEY." Paste the key in the secret box.
  3. 3

    Add the google-intern skill

SAY"Run intern check." It replies: set.
  4. 4

    Drop in a long PDF

SAY"Use the Google intern on this. What are the 3 biggest risks?"
  5. 5

    Paste a YouTube link

SAY"Intern this video. What does he say about pricing?"
Public or non-private files only. On the free tier, Google may use what you send.
MEASURED: tested today on the free tier with gemini-3.8-flash. It worked.

A free doorbell

02
720 to 2bot wake-ups a month

A free Cloudflare robot checks the page every hour. Same page? It goes back to sleep. Changed? It rings your bot with a short before and after note. Nothing gets added to the page.

BEGINNER MISTAKE

Your bot checks a page itself, hour after hour

THE TRICK

A free robot checks it and only wakes your bot on a change

TRICK 02 / FREE DOORBELL

These are the steps

02Free doorbell
  1. 1

Name the page and the change

SAY"Set up a free doorbell on [pricing page]. Tell me only when the prices change."
  2. 2

    The bot deploys the robot

One command on Cloudflare's free plan. Schedule: every hour.
  3. 3

    Open /test

It says no_change. That is a wake-up your bot just skipped.
  4. 4

    Open /test?simulate=1

It shows the exact note your bot would get: before and after.
  5. 5

    Connect the doorbell

Make a routine started by a webhook (a private link that wakes the bot). Save its link and key as secrets. Simulate again.
CITED: Cloudflare's free plan allows 100,000 requests a day. An hourly check uses 24.

Turn the job into a script

03
~11xless usage over a year

A script runs on the bot's computer without the AI thinking through every step. The bot writes it once, then just starts it and reads a 2-line result.

BEGINNER MISTAKE

Your bot redoes the same job by hand every week

THE TRICK

The bot writes a script once. The script does the repeats.

TRICK 03 / TURN THE JOB INTO A SCRIPT

These are the steps

03Turn the job into a script
  1. 1

Do the job once with the bot

SAY"Pull this week's YouTube views, subscribers and top video into my Stats sheet."
  2. 2

    Check it

Fix anything wrong now. Never script a mistake.
  3. 3

    Turn it into a script

SAY"Turn exactly what you just did into a script that needs no AI to run. Test it on today's numbers."
  4. 4

    Save it as a skill

SAY"Save a skill called weekly-stats that runs the script, replies in 2 lines and flags only odd numbers."
  5. 5

    Next week, just call it

Type /weekly-stats. The sheet fills itself. The bot says 2 lines.

Hire a ready-made robot

04
~70xless usage for your bot

Clicking around a website means a screenshot, a look and a decision at every step. An Apify robot (an actor) does the whole job on Apify's computers. Your bot reads one table.

Text, not screenshots or PDFs

05
~20xless usage: text vs a full screenshot

An image costs by its pixels, not its file size. TinyPNG makes the file smaller, but the pixels and the cost stay the same. Cropping cuts the pixels. Text costs least.

BEGINNER MISTAKE

TRICK 05 / TEXT, NOT SCREENSHOTS OR PDFS

These are the steps

05Text, not screenshots or PDFs
  1. 1

Copy the words, not a picture

Errors, emails, web pages: select, copy, paste.
  2. 2

Long text? Send a TXT file

Save it as notes.txt and drop that in.
  3. 3

    PDF? Text first

SAY"Convert this PDF to a text file, then answer from the text." Or use the Google intern.
  4. 4

Must send an image? Crop it

Snipping Tool, or Cmd Shift 4 on a Mac. Only the part that matters.
  5. 5

    Or shrink its size

Fewer pixels wide and tall means less usage. Compressing the file alone does nothing.
Demo: send the same error as a screenshot, then as text. Same answer, a fraction of the usage.

Batch your fixes. One message.

06
~10xless re-reading

Every message makes your bot re-read the whole chat first, and often rebuild the work. Ten little messages means the chat gets re-read ten times.

  1. 1

Go through the whole draft, deck or page out loud. No typing.
  2. 2

Check it reads as a list

One line per fix. Numbered is easiest for the bot.
  3. 3

    Send it once

SAY"Here are all my fixes. Apply them in one pass and reply once."
  4. 4

    Skip the thank-you message

A "thanks" wakes the bot and re-reads the whole chat for nothing.
  5. 5

    Make it a rule

SAY"If I send fixes one at a time, ask me if there are more first."

Brief it once, with a done list

07
~5xfewer credits per job

A vague ask gets a guess. Every "no, not like that" re-reads the growing chat and rebuilds the work. A done list turns checking into one pass.

BEGINNER MISTAKE

A vague ask, then six rounds of "not like that"

THE TRICK

TRICK 07 / BRIEF IT ONCE, WITH A DONE LIST

These are the steps

07Brief it once, with a done list
  1. 1

    Brain dump the job

Talk it out with dictation or Wispr Flow. Messy is fine.
  2. 2

    Hit the 4 parts

The goal. Why. What to avoid. What done looks like.
  3. 3

    Add a done list

3 to 5 lines that must be true at the end.
  4. 4

    Ask for the check

SAY"When you finish, mark each item pass, fail or unknown. Fix only the fails."
  5. 5

    One round of fixes, batched

    Then you are done.
Grok Bot has no plan mode. This is a habit you build, not a button you press.
TRICK 08 / 09 · WHAT IT IS

One bot per kind of job

08

  1. 1

    Ask your busiest bot

SAY"List every kind of job you have done for me this month."
  2. 2

    Spot the odd ones out

SAY"Which of these should really be its own bot?"
  3. 3

Make one bot per kind of job

Decks bot. Email bot. Research bot. Give each a one-line job.
  4. 4

Send new work to the right bot

Unrelated job? Open its own bot, not the busy one.
One job, one bot. Bouncing one job between several bots does not save credits.
TRICK 09 / 09 · WHAT IT IS

Reset a bloated bot

09
~75%less usage per turn (one report)

A bot's history only grows, and every turn re-reads all of it. A duplicate keeps the bot's setup but starts with a clean history.

BEGINNER MISTAKE

One bot dragging months of history into every turn

THE TRICK

Export its memory, then duplicate it for a clean start

TRICK 09 / RESET A BLOATED BOT

These are the steps

09Reset a bloated bot
  1. 1

    Export its memory

SAY"Write everything you remember about me, my preferences and your standing rules to memory-export.md."
  2. 2

    Move the must-keep rules

Put them in the bot's description. That always carries over.
  3. 3

    Duplicate the bot

The copy keeps its description and skills, with a clean history.
  4. 4

Have the copy read the file

SAY"Read memory-export.md and save what matters."
  5. 5

Keep the old one hidden while you check

Check the copy for a few days, then pause the old bot's routines.

BONUS / USAGE BOTS THAT ALREADY EXIST

Bonus: usage bots that already exist

THE PROMPT / PASTE THIS INTO GROK BOT

Paste this into any bot

Turn on lean credits mode. Same work, same quality, fewer credits. Save these rules as a skill called "lean-credits" and add a one-line memory note: "Lean credits mode is on. Follow the lean-credits skill on every job."

1. Brief-back. Before any job bigger than a quick answer, reply in 3 lines: goal, plan, done list. Then start, unless something is unclear.
2. Done list. Every job gets a short list of what must be true when it is finished. Check each item once, mark pass or fail, then do one correction pass on the fails only. If a step fails twice, stop and ask me.
3. Batching. If I send several fixes, do them all in one pass and reply once. Never ping me or other bots with thanks, acknowledgements or progress updates.
4. Text, not images. Ask me for text, or a cropped screenshot, instead of full screen images. Read only the pages of a document that matter.
5. Files for long outputs. Anything over about 300 words goes to a file. Reply with the path and a 3 line summary.
6. Script after 3 repeats. When you do the same job a third time, turn it into a script or skill and rerun that from then on.
7. Cheapest tool first. Use a connector first, then an Apify actor or a plain script, then a script that reads the page. Click around in the browser only as a last resort.
8. Google intern. If a GEMINI_API_KEY secret exists, send long public PDFs, videos and recordings to the google-intern skill and read only its brief. Never send client or private files to the free tier.
9. One complete brief per handoff. When you hand work to another bot, send one message with the goal, inputs, file paths and done list. No back and forth.
10. Doorbell. When I ask you to check something every day, suggest a free doorbell (the free-doorbell skill) that wakes you only when the page changes.

Never cut the work itself to save credits.

Reply "Credit Shield is on".
